Abstract		We present the clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment and complications in children with throat infection. It is important to differentiate between streptococcal infection, which requires specilic antimicrobial treatment, and most common viral infections, in which antimicrobial treatment is not indicated or can even be harmful to the patient.
Summary		V prispevku prikazujemo klinično sliko, diagnostiko, zdravIjenje in zaplete okužbe žrela pri otrocih. Poudarjen je pomen razlikovanja streptokokne okužbe žrela, pri kateri je potrebno usmerjeno zdravljenje z antibiotiki, od pogostejše virusne okužbe, kjer zdravljenje z antibiotiki ni potrebno oziroma lahko bolniku celo škodi.
