Abstract     Backgrounds: The most suitable method of achieving an adequate nutritional intake must be assessed and it depend on the individual needs of the child. Preliminary results and assessment of energy needs for optimal catch up growth in malnourished infants are shown. Results: Weight, length and head circumference gains (mean +- standard deviation (SD)) after3l days ofsupplementation 1282+-355, 4.0+-0.9 in 2.2+-0.9. Daily energy intake increased from 84 +- 27 kcal/kg at study start to 140 +- 27 during the first three days of formula supplementation (P < 0.001) and decreases to 120 +- 24 kcal/kg during the last three days of formula supplementation. Conclutions: Management of failure to thrive by multidisciplinary team approach comprise strategies to preserve breastfeeding and ad libitum formula milk supplementation and was successful in point of covering energy needs of breasfed malnourished infants as well.
