Abstract     Endocarditis related to pacemaker lead infection is a rare but serious complication of permanent transvenous pacing. The authors presented 3 cases of patients with pacemaker related endocarditis who were treated at the department of internal medicine of General Hospital Izola during the last two years. S. aureus was isalated in two patients and S. epidermidis in one. In the first case the source of infection were injuries of extremities with infectious complications, in the second, the recurrent skin necrosis over the pocket region of implanted battery, while in the third case, the origin of infection was not disclosed. All patients had several associated chronic diseases. In two patients, infected pacemaker was removed and a new device reim planted at a new site, whereupon infection didn't recur The patienttreated only with antibiotics had recurrent infections. The authors discussed the difficulties in the diagnosis and management of pacemaker related endocarditis.
