Abstract     The paper presents the major biomolecular technologies, key issues, and immunological objectives for making different kind of vaccines. Appropriate examples of specific vaccines are given with some references. The status of development of vaccines made by each approach is identified, whether licensed or in clinical or preclinical evaluation. Although most common licensed vaccines are discussed, not every conceivable approach is documented. In view of space limitations, only few salient examples of each approach are given. Whereas most examples are for viruses and bacteria, there is also vaccine research for parasites, fungi, and non-infectious diseases. The biomolecular technologies and examples presented should provide a strong framework for appreciation of diverse approaches being taken to the research and development of new vaccines.
Summary     Prispevek poskuša predstaviti poglavitne biomolekularne tehnologije, temeljna vprašanja in imunološke cilje pri pripravi različnih cepiv. Opisana so primerna specifična cepiva z nekaj izbrane literature. Opisujemo stanje razvoja cepiv, ki jih pripravljajo po različnih poteh in so dovoljena za rabo ali pa jih že klinično ali predklinično preizkušajo. Razpravljamo o navadnih dovoljenih cepivih, ne poskušamo pa dokumentirati vseh možnih poti za njihovo pripravo. Prostor v prispevku je omejen in zato opisujemo le pomembne zglede za posamezne poti. Povečini opisujemo cepiva proti virusom in bakterijam, opozarjamo pa tudi na cepiva proti parazitom, glivam in nenalezljivim boleznim. Biomolekularne tehnologije in zgledi cepiv naj dajejo okvir, v katerem je možno razumeti pomen različnih pridelovalnih poti za razumevanje in razvoj novih cepiv.
