Abstract		The treatment of the skin surrounding the ulcer demands a basic knowledge of simptoms, signs and pathology of chronic venous insufficiency. It is also important to be familiar with use and selective action of topical preparations. The skin changes in ulcer surrounding are caused by chronic venous insufficiency and by complication of local therapy. With appropriate periwound care and choice ofsuitable preparation, the inflammation, infection, dermatitis and/or ulcer enlargemnet could be prenented.
