Abstract     Urticaria is one of the most common skin diseases. It is divided into several categories including acute and chronic urticaria and special subtypes. The causes of urticaria are multiple. Urticaria can be triggered with an inflammatory focus, a subclinical infection or autoimmune conditions. In addition, non specific pharmacological or toxin mediated release of inflammatory mediators from basofils or mast cells can also trigger urticaria. Since urticaria has profound impact on the quality of life. effective treatment is very important. While acute urticaria can be treated symptomatically without further investigations, chronic urticaria requires search for trigger facors. The first line treatment of urticaria stilI consist of nonsedating HI antihistamines. There are however some new therapeutic options in treating patients.
