Abstract | Since digestion in an organism constantly changes when exposed to various influences such as physical activity, stress, illness, and different diets, selfcontrol for diabetes patients means a patient's own decision-making about the concentration of glucose in blood and self-evaluation of the results. Various blood sugar tests are available for the determination of glucose in blood and urine, and for acetone in urine. Much more accurate results, however, can be obtained with a home testing kit for measuring blood sugar, which can be claimed by the patients treated with insulin. It is advisable that the results are recorded in a special self-control diary immediately after the test, and a diary be brought to the check-up with the patient's specialist for diabetes. It is also advisable to put down any activities that may influence the obtained results. There are over 20 different glucose metres (instruments for measuring sugar in blood) by various manufacturers now available on the market. For the better management of diabetes General Hospital Maribor offers a self-control outpatient's aid and training. | |
