Abstract     Type 2 diabetes (DM2) is associated with a two to fourfold excess risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Aggressive therapy af diabetic dyslipidemia will reduce the risk of CVD. The CARDS study faund that 10 mg atorvastatin daly reduced the risk of major CV event by 37%, serious heart problems were reduced by 36%, strokes by almost 48%. These benefits were observed even amongst DM2 whose LDL levels were already quite low before treatment. Primary therapy should be directed first at lowering LDL. The initiation level for intervention is LDLHOL>2,6 mmol/l.
