Abstract     OBJECTIVE. CINDI Health Monitor (CHM) is a WHO programme for monitoring health behaviour and related factors in order to evaluate and promote favourable health behaviours in populations. Slovenia joined this programme by carrying out the CHM survey (CHMS) in 2001. METHODS. There were 15,379 inhabitants of Slovenia included into the CHMS 2001, aged from 25 to 64. A stratified random sample (based on nine health regions of Slovenia) on national level was drav,m from the Central Population Register of Slovenia. The mailed questionnaire (based on CHM Questionnaire) was used. RESULTS. The overall response rate was 63.8%. 9034 questionnaires (93.5% out of 9666 retumed) were eligible for analysis. Seat-belt wearing in the front and back seat was observed. The report of 8861 respondents shows that we can estimate that 47.3% of adults in Slovenia are using seat-belts almost always in the front or in the back seat (or they don't travel in the back of the car), 19.7% are using seat-belts always in the front, and only sometimes in the back seat, and 27.4% are using seat-belts always in the front, but never in the back seat (including those using cars with no seat-belts installed in the back seats). Also there are 5.6% of adults who are not using seat-belts at all. Results of show that the most risk group is consisted of males in age 25-49, mostly with vocational education level, employed, mostly from western part of Slovenia. CONCLUSIONS. These results indicate that adults in Slovenia are using seat-belts in the front seats regularely though not all of them, but the problem lies in non using them in the back seat.
