Abstract     In spite of numerous new suture materials is the incidence of postoperative ventral hernias always high, from 2% to 20%. The classic plastic with sutures is justified only at small defects. At big hernias plastic with the insertion of an aloplastic mesh is indicated, by doing it the number of recurrences is substantially reduced, because there isn't a tension between the approachlng edges of the defect. The most frequent used method is the insertion of a polypropilen or polyester mesh into the retromuscular prefascial region. To obtain good results with this kind of healing a good preoperative preparing of the patient and a precise surgical technique are required; in this way the number of complications and recurrences after the operation is reduced.
