Abstract		Different ways for reaching goals represent a big influence on business excellence. What are the aims in laboratory diagnostics? A fast, precise, easy to understand, simple, safe, financially acceptable analysis of samples together with satisfaction of clients and patients. In 1995 a thorough analysis showed the need for making adjustments to world trends, stepping towards automatization and informatization. Setting up the information system was being carried out gradually. Today's evaluation of the project shows our goals have been exceeded. Originally the plan was to set up computer supported work in all laboratories of the Institute (they are located throughout the whole KC) and to connect them all in one system. LIS has shortened time required for editing of samples and eliminated many errors in pre as well as post analitical phase. It also enables easy tracking of orders, samples, results; it connects analysers with the system, produces payment accounts and different statistical calculations. LIS represents one step among many in improvement of the working process and in moving toward business excellence.
