Abstract		Sixty years of use of ultrasound modality in physical therapy is a kind of confirmation of physicians; physiotherapists' and patients' satisfaction with it. Considering the scarce scientific clinical evidence the expectations for the ultrasound therapy effectiveness are often too high. Scientific evdence of diefferent strength for the effectiveness of ultrasound therapy was found in treatment of rheumatoid arthritis carpal tunnel syndrome and calcifying shoulder tendinitis. There is urgent need for physicians to limit themselves in prescribing ultrasound therapy mainly for indications that have been confirmed by evidence based medicine literature. Even more irnportant is the need to confirm physicians' and physiotherapists' positive clinical experiences not yet part of evidence based medicine, in clinical trials of high methodological quality. This is their professional responsibility.
Summary		Šestdeset let uporabe ultrazvoka v fizikalni terapiji je svojevrsten "dokaz" o zadovoljstvu zdravnikov, fizioterapevtov in predvsem bolnikov s to terapijo. Pričakovanja glede učinkovitosti pa so dostikrat prevelika z ozirom na pomanjkljive znanstvene klinične dokaze. Različno močne dokaze za učinkovitost ultrazvočne terapije so ugotovili za naslednje bolezni: revmatoidni artritis, sindrom zapestnega tunela in kalcinirajoči tendinitis ramena. Nujna naloga zdravnikov je, da se v uporabi ultrazvočne terapije omejijo predvsem na indikacije, pri katerih so njeni pozitivni učinki znanstveno dokazani. Še pomembnejša naloga in strokovna odgovornost zdravnikov in fizioterapevtov je, da pozitivne klinične izkušnje, ki še niso znanstveno potr,jene, preverijo in potrdijo v metodološko kakovostnih raziskavah.
