Abstract     The therapy of patients with bacterial, viral, mycotic or parasitic infections is mostly successful if the causative organism can be determined. The aetiological diagnosis is important not only for therapy of illness but also in order to prevent cross infection or epidemic spreading. For thorough microbiological analysis we need an adequate quantity of patient's material significant for the pathologicat process. Collecting should be performed aseptically in sterile container before starting antibiotic treatment. Thc samples are transported in the manner determined by the microbiological laboratory to enable the best possibility for detennination of aetiologic agent. Close contaet of clinician and clinical and medical microbiologist with respectful behavior to the patient as a person gives the best and the quickest result. The right method used and the frequency of sampling reflect the knowledge and the experience of phyicians. Collecting should be performed by a doctor or/and a nurse. Rcsults of microbiological analysis oblige doctors, nurses, microbiologists, techniciens and other health care workers to hold the professional sccret.
