Abstract     Background. Urinary incontinence is one among most frequent pathologies and problems of women of all age groups. Urinary incontinence is defined by the International Continence Society as the compliant of any involuntary leakage of urine. Statistical analysis of many authors have concluded that stres urinary incontinence is the most common type of urinary incontinence. World-wid 5% to 13% of women suffering urinary incontinence need some kind of treatmen. There are many different surgeries available for treatment of urinary incontinence. We will analyze the number and the dynamics of different surgeries performed for treatment of urinary incontinence at the Clinical department of Gynecology Maribor Teaching Hospital from 01.01.1993 to 01.01.2003. Methods. We have analyzed all surgical protocols at the Clinical department of Gynecology at Maribor teaching Hospital from 01.01.1993 to 01.01.2003. We noted all surgical procedures for treatment of urinary incontinence. Results. At the Clinical department of Gynecology at Maribor Teaching Hospital in the period from 01.01.1993 to 01.01.2003 165 surgical procedures for treatment of urinary incontinence were performed. We performed 113 TVT surgeries (68,4%), 28 transabdominal Burch colposuspensions (17,0%), 11 sling operations (6,7%), 11 anterior colporaphias with Kelly's stich (6,7%) and 2 periurethral application of collagen (1,2%). Conclusions. Annual number of surgeries for urinary incontinence during the investigated period at the Clinical department of Gynecology at Maribor Teaching Hospital was increasing. The reason for that is in greater awareness of the disease by the patients and of new treatment options available. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
