Abstract		Intrarectal ultrasound is aknowledeged as the best diagnostic method to determine the depth of infiltration of a rectal carcinoma. As IRUS is nowadays extensively used to study other benign and malignant rectal and perirectal diseases there are other fields of application for IRUS to enable to choose the most appropriate therapy. The use of IRUS at the department of radiology is presented, the advantages and disadvantages of the method are shown and its possible future is discussed.
Summary		Intrarektalni ultrazvok (IRUZ) je najboljša diagnostična metoda v lokalni zamejitvi rektalnega karcinoma. Vse pogostejša uporaba IRUZ v diagnostiki benignih in malignih rektalnih in perirektalnih bolezni odkriva nove možnosti, ki jih ponuja ta preiskava kot pomoč pri odločitvi za najustreznejši način zdravljenja. Predstavljamo uporabo IRUZ na radiološkem oddelku mariborske bolnišnice, prednosti in pomanjkljivosti te metode ter razmišljamo o njeni prihodnosti.
