Abstract		Ultrasound examination in the second trimester is performed between the 20th and 22nd week in order to establish the gestational age by measurements of the head, abdomen and femur, and to assess fetal growth using appropriate growth curves. Additionally, its aim is to detect major congenital anomalies and also minor fetal anomalies that increase the risk of chromosomal anomalies. The placenta and umbilical cord are examined, and the amniotic fluid volume is assessed. Optionally, cervical length is measured in order to determine the risk of preterm defivery, and a Doppler measurement of the uterine artery blood flow is performed to establish the risk of hypertensive diseases in pregnancy and of intrauterine growth restriction. The purpose and possibilities as well as limitations of ultrasound examination should be explained to pregnant women. In addition, the results of the examination should be explained in an appropriate and clear manner.
Summary		Ultrazvočna preiskava v drugem trimesečju nosečnosti, ki jo opravimo med 20. in 22. tednom, je namenjena ugotavljanju plodove gestacijske starosti, oceni plodove rasti z merjenjem premerov in obsegov glavice, trebuha in stegnenice, ki jih vnesemo v ustrezne rastne krivulje, in odkrivanju večjih razvojnih nepravilnosti ter manjših nepravilnosti pri plodu, ki povečajo tveganje za kromosomopatije. Pregledamo tudi posteljico in popkovnico ter ocenimo količino plodovnice. Pogojno izmerimo dolžino materničnega vratu za določanje tveganja za prezgodnji porod in opravimo doplersko preiskavo pretoka krvi skozi maternične arterije za ugotavljanje tveganja za hipertenzivne bolezni v nosečnosti in za zastoj plodove rasti. Nosečnici moramo pojasniti namen ter možnosti in omejitve ultrazvočne preiskave. Izsledke preiskave moramo nosečnici ustrezno in razumljivo pojasniti.
