Abstract		The article discusses the important new contents and alterations which are included in the ATC classification 2003, as well as the Slovenian and Latin translation. The purpose of the ATC classification is to serve as a useful settled framework for statistical studies. In Slovenia it also represents the basis of uniform national naming of medicinal substances. Alterations in the ATC classification are made periodically, entries of new chemicals are incl uded, new mechanisms of action are considered in order to achieve better specificity in the groupings. The translation of the ATC classification 2003 presents numerous improvements, above all the harmonization with the altered text of Medicinal Products and Medical Devices Act and the pertaining regulations. There are also some solutions and recommendations for correct writing and pronunciation of active drug substances.
