Abstract		Incidence of vertebral body fractures in osteoporotic patients is rising. Conservative treatment is often ineffective. Operative treatment and instrumentation is not reliable. A new hope came with vertebroplasty, but it seems not to be enough safe and efficient. Balloon kyphoplasty is described in detail, which is more efficient in correcting kyphosis and more safe regarding complications. Results are promising, patients describe pain reduction, anagesic consumption reduction, less gastrointestinal irritation and because of reduced kyphosis, there are less respiratory problems. Mobilify of patients is improved, requiring less nursing and slowing down progression of osteoporosis.
