Abstract     According to anatomical and biomechanical characteristics injuries of upper and lower cervical spine are described. The principle goal of a therapy is to protect neural structures, and enable correct and stable fractures healing with the best possible functional return and the lowest possible pain. Careful clinical assessment, description according to recommended classifications, efficient use of diagnostic procedures and therefore conservative treatment with traction, collars, braces, cast and halo vest or operative anterior, posterior or combined fusion are mandatory for the successful treatment of cervical spine injuries. As the treatment of these injuries is complex and demandable successful treatment can be achieved only in sufficiently qualified and equiped (spinal) centers.
