Abstract     Number of neck injuries is rising. Main causes are traffic accidents, falls and sport activities. We distinguish two expressions: whiplash, which means the mechanism of injury and syndrome of whiplash-associated disorders, which includes neck pain, pain and paresthesias in arms, stiff neck, dysfunction of temporomandibular joints, headache, dizziness, visual symptoms, concentration and memory difficulties and psychological stress. Pathological processes of whiplash haven't been clearly defined yet. Precise history and clinical exam are crucial in diagnostics of whiplash neck trauma. Imaging techniques are used to exclude other serious injuries of spine. Therapies of choice in acute phase are analgetics and physiotherapy. Splinting of a neck (e.g. Philadelphia collar) is rarely indicated and if, only for a short period of time.
