Abstract     Hair grows from hair follicles which are developed during the first two gestational trimesters. The growing of hair is driven by the dermal papilla which is located at the bottom of the follicles and is cycling in three consecutive phases: anagen, catagen and telogen. We discuss the common causes of hair loss and the treatment: androgenetic alopecia, telogen effluvium, anagen effluvium, alopecia areata, cicatricial alopecia, and trichotillomania.
