Abstract     Family physicians have big influence on reproductive health. Not only do they have a long and trusting relationship with their patients, the access to their practices is good, but they also know the family and personal history of their patient. Besides, knowing the patient in his bio psychosocial environment enables early detection of the problem and adequate referral to specialist clinics. Referral on time, as early as possible is often of key importance for the outcome of the treatment. Family planning requires not only a solid professional background, but also a favorable social and economic atmosphere. This article brings the basic characteristics and problems of reproductive health in Slovenia, an outline of youngsters as the most vulnerable group, a short introduction to sex transmitted disease, the basic agenda on care of unfertile couple and a reminder on sex violence, a highlight on today's professional and public interest, all from standpoint of family physician. Adequate education of all levels of medical professionals as well lay public and a favorable social climate can create an atmosphere in which one of the basic human rights can be fulfilled: to have a family with children and to reach the highest standards of reproductive health.
