Abstract     Pain is the prominent cause in many patients seeking emergency rnedical care. The proportion of patients with inadequate pain relief in emergency medical setting remains quite high, despite of rapid evolving neurobiology of pain and numerous analgesic techniques available. Some of the reasons addressed for so-called "oligoanalgesia" are: inadequate recognition, assessment and treatment of pain and fear of opioid analgesics - "opiophobia". The benefits of effective pain relief on the course of disease and healing process after trauma are well recognised. In addition, the patient's satisfaction is important factor contributing to quality assessment of emergency medical system. This article presents a review ot some common pain assessment and management obstacles and provides possible suggestions for proper pain management in emergency care patients.
