Abstract		Background. The removal of third molar is a problem which confronts many dentists and maxillofacial surgeons worldwide must confront. Also, the opinion about indications and time of their removal differs. Methods. In the article the author suggests the removal of third molars by indications which he thoroughly analyzes. Conclusions. Based on our experience (6729) in last three years it is our opinion that third molar removal has few postoperative complications when indications are correctly considered and the judgment about removal is established. Thus we can avoid unnecessary postoperative doubts about unfounded removal.
Summary		Izhodišča. Odstranjevanje modrostnih zob je vprašanje, s katerim se ukvarjajo številni zobozdravniki in čeljustni kirurgi po svetu. Mnenja se mnogokrat razhajajo, tako glede indikacij kot časa odstranitve. Metode. V članku avtor predlaga odstranjevanje modrostnih zob po indikacijah, ki jih razčleni. Opisani so tudi možni zapleti pri neupoštevanju indikacij oz. starosti bolnikov. Zaključki. Glede na visoko število odstranjenih modrostnih zob (6729) v zadnjih treh letih ugotavljamo, da je pooperativni potek ob upoštevanju indikacij v večini primerov brez posebnih zapletov, presoja o odstranitvi modrostnih zob pa v večini primerov pravilna in utemeljena. S tem se izognemo nepotrebnim kasnejšim pomislekom o morebitni neutemeljeni odstranitvi modrostnega zoba.
