Abstract		Introduction. Varicose veins of lower limbs represent a common problem amongst people, especially in older population. Surgery plays a major role in varicose vein treatment of lower limbs in addition to diseases associated with vein valves and vascular wall. Methods. This article reviews the indications and modern surgical methods of treating varicose vein. These methods are as follows: stripping of vein saphena magna and parva, ligature of perforant veins with so-called "open" and "closed" endoscopic method, paratibial fasciotomy and thrombectomy. Results. Doing good surgery means having the transparent results of success in treating certain conditions with surgical means.Treating the varicose veins is one of these conditions where surgical treatment has proven very successful. To be more concise, varicose vein surgery is generally carried out with minimum complication, the pain is minimal and so are the 24 scars left by the procedure. The visual results are also obvious in disappearance of varicose veins, which is followed by decrease or total absence of symptomatology characteristic for this condition. Conclusions and perspectives. In treating the varicose vein one should very closely monitor the condition of patient with means of precise and exact diagnostics with paying great attention to all indications and contraindications. With this guidance in mind a surgeon should beableto build a precise clinical picture of every individual. On the other hand, there is a surgical procedure itself, which should be improved in the future through better understanding of anatomy and more subtle operating technique. These are the key factors that lead eventually to success in treating varicose veins.
