Abstract     In the paper we present our experience with laparoscopic operations for GERD, hiatal hernias, achalasia, oesophageal leiomyoma and obesity. Method. From 2000 to 2004 we performed 85 laparoscopic operations. We operated 40 females and 43 males.Their average age was 52 years, ranging from 14 to 75 years. Indications for operations were GERD in 49 cases (59%), hiatal hernia in 6 cases (7%), combination of both in 22 cases (27%), achalasia in 4 cases (5%), one case of oesopageal leiomyoma in one case of bariatric operation. We collected and analysed the data from patients' documentation, our information system and follow up protocol. Results. In the analysis we evalutaed only the results of treatments of GERD and hiatal hernias, because the number of other procedures is still too small. In 73 patients (91%) we performed laparoscopic plastic of oesophageal hiatus with Nissen fundoplication, in 6 patients (9%) we performed plastic of oesophageal hiatus with gastropexia. In three cases (4%) we had to perform conversion to laparotomy. The avaerage time of hospitalisation was 5 days, ranging fom 2 to 11 days. Perioperative complications were observed in 13 patients (16%). In 6 cases (7%) the complication was severe dysphagia, in four patients there appeared cardiac arrythmia, in two cases laparotomy dechiscency and in two cases intraoperative hemorrhage appeared with laparotomy to control the bleeding. There were no lethal complications. In 6 cases (7%) endoscopic dilatations of fundoplicate were performed. In one patient with resistent dysphagia laparoscopic reoperation was performed with fundoplicate release. We followed the patients on average for 5 months, ranging from 1 to 18 months. In 19 patients (23%) the result of the operation was excellent, in 41 cases (51 %) good, in 15 patients (19%) satisfactory and in 6 patients (7%) bad. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters)
