Abstract		Alcohol and tobacco related squamous cell carcinoma of the upper aero digestive tract accountsfor most of the malignances in the head and neck region and puts a great burden on the health system worldwide. The goal of oral cancer treatment is to remove the cancer and to prevent recurrences, but reconstruction of the defects with good functional and esthetic outrome is equally important. Team work is mandatory in treating patients with oral cancer. If possible, surgery is used as a single modality treatment. Survival of oral cancer patients can be improved by earlier detection of cancerous lesions in the oral cavity.
