Abstract     Hospitalized neonates and children are exposed to hospital infections due to invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. In infancy, there is close contact to caregivers and exposure to contaminated staff hands and contaminated enviromental surfaces is enorm. In early childhood there is particularly common transmission of enteric and respiratory pathogens because of children's poor hygienic habits. Differencies beetween a child and an adult result in different nosocomial infections in childhood and adult age however infection control measures are similar. The most important control measure is hand hygiene.
