Abstract     We live in the period of biotehnology and genetics. Rapid progress in genetic research is now paving the way for medical progress. Research is focused on the human genome and disease-related genetic changes. In Slovenia many different techniques are used for the diagnosis of gene disorders including standard chromosome analysis, fluorescent "in situ" hybridisation (FISK) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. Advances in molecular cytogenetics and malecular genelics have led to the development of DNA microarray technology, by which the relative nurnber of gene copies in a sample can be determined for many thousands genes in just one experiment. This new analysis method is opening up new opportunities in genomic analysis but is very expensive. We can replace it with multiplex-amplifiable probe hybridization (MAPH) and multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplificatian (MLPA) ntethods.
