Abstract     In vascular surgery specific treatment depends on an accurate diagnosis. History of the patient and clinical examination can determine the severity of the disease and provide an approximate localization. Non-invasive imaging tests will refine the diagnosis. Mostly used nowadays are colour duplex and spiral computed tomography, sometimes also magnetic resonance angiography. Despite improvements in non-invasive techniques, intra-arterial angiography remains the gold standard for precise visualization of vascular pathology before vascular surgery.
