Abstract     The article describes the role and importance of Total Quality Management in the private sector, and how it is being addressed in the public sector, i.e. healthcare. Many healthcare institutions are controlling their basic processes according to the quality management and quality assurance standards, such as IS09001, 1S09004,15014000, OHSAS 18001, and other. Special emphasis is on managing relations between employees and those with employees. A model of quality system documentation is presented including the structure of quality system documents and defining the users as well as the principles of quality system document production. The role of quality manual is described in detail. The method of measuring business excellence, which is the most common way of assessing the quality of individual organisations, and which is also used in healthcare, is described.
