Abstract     Thromboembolic complications occur very frequent after the orthopaedic operation specially after hip and knee surgery. Most of complications can be prevented by appropriate prophylactic measures. In Orthopedic hospital Valdoltra we used LMWH during the hospitalisation. In patients with very high risk of getting TC we continue to administer Marivarin after the discharge from the hospital. This prolonged prophylaxis lasted all together 6 weeks. In 3 years period we have 23 thromboembolic complications in 2904 operated patients (spine, hip and knee surgery) in spite of thromboprophylactic measures mentioned above.
