Abstract     The article contains the most important steps of the activities in transplant medicine. Donation of organs and tissues is described as a social process, which offers the condition for transplantation as the new therapeutic approach. The legal basis for it is: The act for the removal of the parts of human body with the purpose of treatment. The procurement of organs and tissues for the transplantation from the deceased person is a professional procedure; it can be carried out when the decision of the deceased person is known. There are three ways of the expression for donation next the assessment of the adequacy of organs and tisues for the transplantation and the main contraindications are listed. The maintenance of perfusion, oxygenation and temperature of the internal organs from the time of brain death determination till the removal of organs is described. Different programs of organ transplantation in Slovenia, the results and obstacles for the development are presented. The national transplant program has been developed in Slovenia since 1998 and it is coordinated and supervised by the Slovenia-transplant, Institute for Transplantation of Organs and Tissues of the Republic of Slovenia. The national waiting lists and the competencies and responsibilities of Slovenia-transplant are demonstrated. In the conclusion the main advantages of the treatment with the transplantation a stressed. The results of donor rates per million population, transplanted patients and the activities different donor centres in Slovenia are presented by the tables.
