Abstract     Lifelong follow-up of the transplanted patient means a continuous care not only for the specialist team in the hospital, but also for his family. Infections are the most frequent and the most fatal complication in the transplanted patient. Family physician is involved in the pretransplant activities and treatment of infections after transplantation. Therefore, family physicians need some basic knowledge on immunosupressive drugs, and the time course of most frequent infections after transplantation. The primary physician knows the patient in his biopsychosocial environment and- in our environment- represents the fastest access to healthcare system. He is able to monitor patient's compliance to the drug regimens and patient's life-style that is important in preventing many infections. Active cooperation of the patient with his family physician, the physician's adequate education, and his tight cooperation with the hospital specialist team can provide his patient a wholesome, adequate and high-quality health care.
