Abstract		The quality of life and survival rates following transplantation of organs and tissues have greatly improved owing to advances involving surgical techniques, immunosuppressive therapy and medical management. However, allograft rejection and complications such as infection which are related by immunosuppressive therapy, remain major causes of morbidity and mortality following transplantation. In order to reduce the possibility of infection after transplantation, and morbidity, and mortality in connection with it, it is advisable to assess the patient's pretransplantation risk of infection. On the basis of assessed risk factors we can take preeentive measures. The article describes the clinical procedure for risk assessment and the epidemiolopical measures and antimicrobial prophvlaxis of post-transplantion infections.
