Abstract     The purpose of the paper is to highlight the experience in using functional electrical stimulation in Rehabilitation Institute, Ljubljana where FES has been used as a routine additional treatment in rehabilitation of patients with upper motor neuron lesion for almost 30 years. About 80% of all admitted stroke patients participate in the FES program. FES is also routinely used for spinal cord injury patients and for children with cerebral palsy. Distinction has to be made between functional and therapeutical electrical stimulation (TES).
