Abstract     When rushing to an adult patient with acute respiratory distress, we often anticipate to see a pulmonary edema which is common, well known and relatively easy to manage. Trubles arise when we declare other conditions as pulmonary edema and therefore treat them inappropriately. We show some hints as to how to differentiate cardiogenic pulmonary edema from acute bronchial asthma, pneumonia, pulmonary embolisms, exacerbation of COPD, and noncardiogenic pulmonary edema.
