Abstract		Drowning is an important cause of mortality in the world. Due to the coastal location and summer tourism we frequently encounter the problem of drowning in the General hospital Izola. We reviewed hospital records of 99 near-drowning victims admitted to regional hospital Izola from January 1992 to December 2004. 62 were men (mean age 55 ± 20 let) and 37 women (meanage 66 ± 16 years). 51 % victims were 65 years old. All victims drowned in seawater. 9 near-drowning victims (6 men and 3 women) died. Hospital records were reviewed with regard to the etiology of near-drowning, the patient's condition upon arrival at the emergency room, examinations completed on admission, treatment, hospital course, and ultimate outcome.
