Abstract | Triage, from the French verb trier, means to sort. Our goal is to maximize the number of patients who will survive. The triage system must determine the severity of each patient quickly and accurately. It should be easy to learn, simple to remember (especially under stress), and should not require advanced diagnostic skills. Each emergency medical service jurisdiction most use a combination of the mechanism of injury, anatomic critereia and medical criteria. The ATLS conceptof triage and scoring systems (MEES, RTS, GCS) are the basic to sort victims into categories to determine treatment and transport priorities. | |
