Abstract     We have performed a retrospective analysis of cases of poisoning at the Internal, Pulmonary ans Infection ward at the General Hospital Novo mesto in the years 2003 - 2004. Poisoning represented 2,0 respectively 1,3 % of all the admission to the above mentioned wards in the years 2003-2004 and were more common with men than women. Among the most common cases of poisoning are poisoning with ethanol, benzodiazepins or a combination of both. The lying-in period of patients with poisoning was short in both years. The number of people with poisoning reduced in 2004, but more people needed to be treated in the intensive care unit as in 2003. The mortality rate of people with poisoning was low in both of the two mentioned years.
