Abstract     Prion decontamination methods known so far have been described and discussed in this article. The only usable chemical is NaOCI but not effectfull in all cases and unusable for stainless steel. Best results were obtained autoclaving 1 or 0.1 N NaOH simultaneously at 121-134 degrees C but this cannot be used for glass and aluminium. Combination of alkaline detergents and proteolytic enzymes has been successful, in some cases, but they also can be combined with autoclaving for thermostabile devices. Drying of instruments after use must be avoided under any circumstances during the transport of instruments from operation rooms to the sterilization department. This can be done without great investments. In general, in most world hospitals prion decontamination methods are not adequate. This guilt for Slovenia as well.
Summary     Članek opisuje do sedaj znane metode za dekontaminacijo prionov in o njih razpravlja. Edina uporabna kemikalija je NaOCI, vendar je neuporabna za nerjaveče jeklo. Najboljše rezultate so dobili z avtoklaviranjem 0,1 ali 1N NaOH pri 121-134 stopinjah C, vendar je NaOH neuporabna za steklo in aluminij. Kombinacija alkalnih detergentov in proteolitičnih encimov je bila v nekaterih eksperimentih uspešna, priporočajo pa tudi kombinacijo z avtoklaviranjem za termostabilne instrumente. Sušenje instrumentov takoj po uporabij e treba na vsak način preprečiti, tj. še v obdobju prenosa med operacijsko dvorano in oddelkom za sterilizacijo. Zato je možno poskrbeti brez velikih investicij. Na splošno velja, da v večini bolnišnic po svetu dekontaminacija prionov ni ustrezna, kar velja v enaki meri tudi za Slovenijo.
