Abstract		The article deals with different methods available for temporary mechanical protection of prepared teeth. The advantages of the egg-shell technique are described and the indications for its use are presented. The technique offers protection to prepared teeth during the reprosthetic phase of treatment and allows the patient to become accustomed to the appearance and function of the future final restoration. Clinical and laboratory procedures used in the construction of egg-shell provisionals are described. The egg-shell technique should become a standard method in fixed prosthodontic rehabilitation, especially when the treatment protocol includes lengthy preparatory procedures.
Summary		Sestavek opisuje različne načine mehanske zaščite obrušenih zob in indikacije za posamezne klinične pristope. Razloži prednosti, pomen in indikacije za uporabo tehnike tenke lupine kot dolgotrajne začasne zaščite zob v procesu fiksnoprotetične rehabilitacije, ki zaščiti obrušene zobe in obenem pacientu pokaže obliko in funkcijo končne restavracije. Provizorij omogoča izvedbo dolgotrajnih pripravljalnih postopkov. Sestavek natančno opisuje klinične in laboratorijske postopke izdelave dolgotrajne začasne fiksnoprotetične oskrbe s tehniko tenke lupine. Predlagamo, da zaščita obrušenih zob s tehniko tenke lupine postane standardna metoda pri obsežnih fiksnoprotetičnih rehabilitacijah, še posebno če vključujejo dolgotrajne pripravljalne postopke.
