Abstract		The dissertation discusses the importance of ensuring patient adherence to tuberculosis treatment. It describes different tasks of the nursing staff intended to improve patient adherence, with a special emphasis on health education. In the empirical part, health education programme for tuberculosis patients at the University Clinic of Respiratory and Allergic Diseases Golnik is described and evaluated. The evaluation is based on results of interviews with TB patients before and after their treatment at the clinic, which show that patient education programme at the University Clinic Golnik is adequate. However, additional emphasis needs to be placed on educating patients about coughing hygiene, improving knowledge of medications and their side effects, and the importance of successful completion of treatment. To this end, new didactic tools are suggested. The research may be used as a tool for continuing health education evaluation at Golnik. Furthermore, it could serve as a starting point for comparative analyses that would include all hospitals in Slovenia that admit and also educate patients with tuberculosis. It reveals the need for further research that would allow new insights into this subject.
