Abstract     A sample of children with mild intellectual disability (MID) was investigated. MID appears before adulthood and is characterised by a low level of intellectual function and problems in adaptation. Chararacteristics of social function and personality in children with MID were explored and predictive validity of personality with regards to social behaviour was also examined. Parents (tutors) assesed childs personality employing the "Inventory of Child Individual Differences" (slo. VIRO, Zupančič in Kavčič, 2004), and the social behaviour was assesed by teachers with "Social Competence and Behaviour Evaluation Scale" (SV-O, LaFreniere et al., 2001). A three-component structure of personality was derived by these children (extraversion, disagreeableness and conscientiousness-emotional stability). In the domain of social behaviour, there are more differences between boys and girls regarding personality, and on all scales girls were assesed as being more social adjusted. Age is not associated with social behaviour on such a level. With increasing age, these children become more agreeable. In both fields of research, the group of children with mild intelectual dissability is significantly different from the group of normative children in the direction of society's less desirable behaviour. Directions of predictive social behaviour are the same as by normative population, but there are less important predictions, on the level of dimensions, only disagreeableness is predictied in all sumary scales of social behaviour, with the exception of internalizing problems.
