Abstract		Water is a vital element of our everyday lives and we expect it to be clean and safe. The law requires many actions to protect drinking water and its sources. In this article the role of different microbiological parameters is explained and the methods used to analyse the microbiological quality of water are described. Some difficulties about microbiological analysis and results are discussed.
