Abstract     According to the Legislation organic parameters in drinking water can be separated into two groups: those that quantify an aggregate amount of organic matter comprising organic constituent with a common characteristic and those that quantity individual organic compounds. The latter are pesticides and their metabolites which can be separate into different groups according to their chemical characteristics and highly and middle volatile organic compounds: trihalomethanes, tetrachloroeten, trichloroeten, policyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzen ete. which are most common present in drinking waters and the former are TOC and oxidizability. The main reasons for the appearance of organic compounds in drinking water is agrocultural and industrial pollution of groundwater and reactions between chlorine with organic precursors in the process of disinfection. Many of them are known to be toxic. Ground water is important source of water supply for the city of Ljubljana and it should be monitored continuously. Some results of the determinations of some organic compound in underground water from the area of Ljubljansko polje and Ljubljansko barje are presented.
