Abstract		Hypertension is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. The prevalence of hypertension in Slovenia, according to data from epidemiologic study in 1985, is comparable to western European countries. The awareness of hypertension was poor an so was the percentage of controlled hypertensive patients. Since 1985 few population studies were completed, showing no big progress in the field of hypertension control. We assume that the percentage of controlled hypertensive patients is higher now. But this is only an assumption and there is an obvious need for epidemiologic study. We plan to examine a random sample (18856 adult inhabitants) of Slovenian adult population till the end of the year 2005.
