Abstract     Hypertensive kidney disease as a consequence of long standing essential arterial hypertension is well established entity but is in the caucasians rare cause of end stage renal disease. The diagnosis is establlshed by clinical criteria. Microalbuminuria and the estimated glomerular filtration rate are useful markers in hypertensive patient for early kidney disfunction and increased cardiovascular risk. Proteinuria greater than 1g/day, eritrocituria and low GFR denote primary kidney disease, which could be established by renal biopsy.
