Abstract     Background. The results of several recent studies that address the issue of fathers' support of breastfeeding are discussed in this paper. A mother's perception of her partner's attitude toward breastfeeding influences her choice of infant feeding method. Strong approval of breastfeeding by the father is associated with a high incidence of breastfeeding. It is major challenge for health proffesionals to dispel misconceptions about breastfeeding. Conclusions. In this paper possibilities of giving appropriate information about breastfeeding to the fathers are described. Health proffesionals should be opportunistic about fathers in discussions about breastfeeding whenever possible, both antenatally and postnatally.
