Abstract		Prebiotics play an increasingly important role in the discussions how to improve human health and how to prevent and treat certain diseases such as infections, coronary heart disease, atopic diseases, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, obesity and others. There is increasing evidence that dietary modulation of the human microflora with functional food is important for improved human health.
